Veruleiki peninga er heimspekileg rannsókn á peningum og peningalegu gildi og er verkefnið hýst af Heimspekistofnun Háskóla Íslands.
Verkefnið er helgað rannsókn á frumspekilegum grundvelli peninga sem hlutar sem felur í sér vald, ásamt því að skoða hvað það felur í sér að hafa peningalegt gildi, og setur það jafnframt í áþreifanlegra samhengi með því að skoða félagsleg öfl og stofnanir sem skipta máli við mótun peningakerfisins, eins og ójöfnuð, neysluhyggju, mannlegar tilfinningar og hegðunareiginleika gagnvart peningum, sem og ýmislegt annað tengt peningum sem félagslegu fyrirbæri. Verkefnið felur í sér samstarf fræðimanna bæði innanlands og alþjóðlega og stærsta afurð þess er bók eftir verkefnisstjórann, Eyju Margréti Brynjarsdóttur, The Reality of Money. The Metaphysics of Financial Value, gefin út hjá Rowman and Littlefield International haustið 2018. Einnig má nefna málþing haustið 2015 og alþjóðlega ráðstefnu haustið 2017, þemahefti Ritsins um peninga 2015 auk greina og fyrirlestra eftir þátttakendur í verkefninu. Meðlimir verkefnisins nota niðurstöður áfram í rannsóknum sínum nú um stundir sem og í fyrirsjáanlegri framtíð, til dæmis í væntanlegri útgáfu efnis um verðleikahugmyndir og ójöfnuð. Margir þátttakendur verkefnisins vinna enn saman að ýmsum rannsóknum tengdu þessu verkefni og munu halda því samstarfi áfram um ókomna tíð, meðal annars að femínískri heimspekirannsókn á þekkingarlegri og tilfinningalegri afvegaleiðingu og valdasamspili í samstarfi við grasrótarhreyfingar og að samvinnu í greinaskrifum, svo sem um efnahagslegan ójöfnuð frá femínísku sjónarhorni.

The Reality of Money is a philosophical investigation of money and monetary value, hosted by the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Iceland. It is dedicated to examining the metaphysical foundations of money as a powerful, existing object, what it takes for things to have monetary value, and putting it in an empirical context by examining social forces and institutions that are relevant to shaping the monetary system, such as inequality, consumerism, human emotions and behavioral tendencies towards money, and various other matters relevant to money as a social phenomenon. The project involves cooperation among researchers both locally as well as internationally and its main output is a monograph by the principal investigator, Eyja M. Brynjarsdóttir, The Reality of Money. The Metaphysics of Financial Value, published by Rowman and Littlefield International in 2018. Other outputs include a symposium in the fall of 2015, an international conference hosted at the University of Iceland in the fall of 2017, an issue of Ritið with the theme "money" at the end of 2015, and several articles and presentations from participants in the project. Project members apply the results to their (mostly philosophical) work both at present and in the foreseeable future, such as in imminent publications on meritocracy and inequality. Some of the project participants are still co-operating in various combinations on different projects and will continue to do so into the future, such as on a feminist philosophy project on epistemic and emotional manipulation cooperating with grassroots organizations, and co-writing of papers on financial inequality from a feminist perspective.
