IWEV verkefnið var 4 ára rannsóknarverkefni um reynslu innflytjenda kvenna af ofbeldi í nánum samböndum og á vinnustöðum. Þetta verkefni er fyrsta sinnar tegundar á Íslandi og lagði áherslu á að rannsaka upplifun innflytjendakvenna með því að nota blandaðar aðferðir. Gögnum var safnað með spurningakönnun á níu algengustu tungumálum sem innflytjendakonur nota á Íslandi. Að auki voru tekin 35 viðtöl við konur og 20 viðtöl við hagsmunaaðila, svo sem starfsmenn þjónustu‐ og
ríkisstofnana.
Fyrstu niðurstöður benda til þess að þó að upplifun innflytjendakvenna sé svipuð og reynsla íslenskra kvenna, þá sé marktækur munur þar á. Innflytjendakonur eru líklegri til að verða fyrir stofnana‐ og kerfisbundnu ofbeldi vegna jaðarstöðu þeirra sem innflytjendur á Íslandi. Þó að stofnanir og þjónustuaðilar stefni að því að veita nægjanlega og viðeigandi aðstoð, eru ákveðin samtök enn ómeðvituð um afleiðingar þess hvernig menningarlegur misskilningur og skortur á dýpri skilningi á fordómum hefur áhrif á hvernig, hvenær og á hvaða hátt innflytjendakonur leita sér aðstoðar. Niðurstöður þessa verkefnis verða notaðar til að þróa verkfæri og námsefni fyrir þjónustuaðila til að bæta þjónustu við innflytjendakonur. Gögnin verða kynnt í nokkrum fræðitímaritum sem og í bók um ofbeldi á íslensku og ensku. Útdrættir verða gerðir á helstu tunguálum sem innflytjendur nota á Íslandi. Verkefnið leiddi af sér áframhaldandi doktorsverkefni um áhrif atvinnubundins ofbeldis sem innflytjendakonur upplifa innan háskólasamfélagsins.

The IWEV research project was a 4‐year research project into immigrant women’s experiences of
violence in intimate partner relationships and in the workplace. This mixed method project was the first of its kind in Iceland that focused exclusively on immigrant women´s experiences. The data collected was a survey provided in the nine most prominently spoken languages in Iceland. As well as over 35 interviews of women and 20 interviews of stakeholders, such as violence intervention providers and governmental agencies. Preliminary results indicate that while immigrant women’s experiences are similar to Icelandic women´s experiences, there are significant difference. Immigrant women are more likely to encounter structural and institution hindrance and violence due to their liminal status as immigrants in Iceland. While institutions and services providers aim to provide sufficient and appropriate interventions, certain organization remain unaware of implications of how cultural misunderstandings and lack of deeper understanding of prejudice has implications for how, when and in what ways immigrant women feel empowered to seek support.
Information on how the results will be applied:
Results from this project will be used to develop tools and training materials for service providers to improve services to immigrant women. The data will furthermore be presented in several academic journals as well as a book on violence as a culmination of the project along with another project. The project resulted in a continued doctoral project on the implications of employment‐based violence for immigrant women in higher education.
